After 2 years of designing/coding/compromising GreenPigeon.TV is about to be launched. I think we are on our 3rd full iteration of the site (I will be beginning the 4th iteration soon). When I look back its hard to believe how spot on where we about our intuitions. We had one goal in mind, a simple video site to serve you only videos you would like. Simple can mean a lot of things to people, however when I look at our site, I think we hit our goal. There are only 5 buttons on the main (and only) app page. Yes, only 5. You can easily restrict how GreenPigeon finds videos with a settings modal window. (This was working about a year ago) So no more 10 minute long pointless videos (if you like those, just change your settings).
Overall, I am excited to get more feedback about GreenPigeon. Even more exciting will be that the next iteration will be mobile friendly. So give it a test drive:
Yesterday someone mentioned usability and usability certificates, more specifically Human Factors International. I have heard of it before from grad school (I went to IU and have a Masters in Human Computer Interaction Design), so I checked out there site since its been 2+years since I have seen it (http://www.humanfactors.com/home/usability.asp). I was shocked, and not in a good way. For an organization that promotes usability there site is not user friendly at all. Do you really need 100+ links on a your homepage? There are long list where you should strip the rows for legibility. Oh the typography… dark blue links with black text all smaller then it should be to fit way too much information on the page. The call to action buttons, like register now, are 19px tall, yes only 19px for a register button, to register for a course where they make money.
If anyone is HFI certified I would love to see their work, hopefully their programs are good they just have yet to update their website.
IE9 is going to support canvas. Also check out their Acid3 score. Is IE9 going to help MSFT catch up with the rest of the web world?
After looking at several college major quizzes, I came up with several new designs (5 in total). After getting the green light from the career planing center I am in the process of building my winning concept. I will post some pictures in the coming weeks of how it turned out.
Here is the link to the iPhone app that I just recently developed that got approved by Apple:

The first version of the Valparaiso University iPhone app has been accepted by Apple (even the first approval attempt!). I will post up the iTunes link shortly.
I found this good UX blog today when I was researching college major quizes:
I was colleague of the week last week and made a little prezi to showcase my background. Here is the link to it:
